Previously, Belzie spent 12 years as a teacher leader and instructional coach at Orchard Gardens Pilot School, which over the course of several years went from turnaround status to being praised by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick as “one of the best schools” in the state. Before that, Belzie taught at Brooke Charter School. She began her career as a Teach For America corps member at PS/MS 15 in the Bronx. She is the recipient of the Teach for America Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Frederick Sontag Prize for Excellence in Urban Education.
