Carolyn is a proud first-generation Cape Verdean American and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Certificate in Educational Administration from National University.
With 22 years of experience in urban educational settings, Carolyn’s journey includes impactful roles in both Boston and San Bernardino, CA. In San Bernardino, her dedication as a California Partnership Academy teacher, mentor, and Science Department Chair earned her district recognition of Teacher of the Year.
She returned to her hometown in 2016, where Carolyn’s leadership has been pivotal in driving positive change within the Taunton Public School District both as Assistant Principal of Parker Middle School where she focused on enhancing student belonging and academic excellence, and later as a Technology Director, where she spearheading initiatives such as the successful launch of a 1:1 Chromebook program and securing significant funding to ensure equitable internet access for all students.
Seeking a deeper connection and instructional impact with students and educators, Carolyn transitioned to the role of Assistant Principal overseeing Teaching and Learning at Taunton High School in 2023. Her recent accomplishments include establishing the Early College programming, earning state designation. Carolyn also leads the core stakeholder team of teachers, school leaders, and district leaders as the Catalyst for the Barr Foundation Meeting the Moment cohort, a competitive grant-funded process to transform schools and districts for equity and excellence.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Carolyn cherishes spending quality time with her husband, Matt, teenage children Mia, Brayden, and Cameron, as well as her extensive extended family. She also adores her goldendoodles, Cora and Oakley, whom she loves cuddling and chasing around her yard.
