Elizabeth began her teaching career as a high school chemistry and physics teacher at Blackstone Academy Charter School (BACS), which was then a 160-student high school in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In her six years at BACS Elizabeth learned from wonderful colleagues who fueled her passion for rich community-situated interdisciplinary learning experiences, and for the importance of centering community and relationships as necessary backgrounds for rigorous learning to happen in schools. After six years as a high school science teacher Elizabeth took a year away from the classroom to pursue her Master’s Degree. After graduate school Elizabeth moved to Boston and became a middle school math and science teacher at Conservatory Lab Charter School (CLCS) in Dorchester, where she has now taught for nine years. This role has allowed her to continue to pour into her passion for interdisciplinary and project-based learning. CLCS is a K-8 school with two main pillars to its program: an El Sistema inspired music program, and EL (formerly Expeditionary Learning). While Elizabeth is not a musician, she loves to draw and paint, and enjoys spending her time in a school that values both rigorous academics and the arts. When she’s not teaching, Elizabeth can be found running, reading, painting, or spending time outdoors with her husband and her son.
