Emily is an educator at Chelsea High School, where she has worked for the past six years—first as a 9th-grade ELA teacher and now as the ELA instructional coach. She currently resides in Wakefield, Massachusetts, with her golden retriever, Mason, but they will be moving into the city of Boston this summer. Emily attended James Madison University in Virginia and started her teaching career in the city of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She received her Master’s in Teaching from James Madison and is currently enrolled in Salem State University’s CAGS program to pursue her administrative license. Although she misses the classroom immensely, she is flexing her leadership muscles this school year by running numerous professional development sessions at her school, being a member of the Instructional Leadership Team, and working to “reimagine” the high school through a grant from the Barr Foundation that her school recently received. She also supervises her school’s Acceleration Academies, which are extended learning opportunities for students during their school breaks.
In her free time Emily enjoys being active (her golden retriever demands daily frisbee time) and can often be found running outside or cycling on her stationary bike. She also enjoys cooking up new recipes for her partner, friends, and family members. She also enjoys reading, watching good movies, and admittedly watching trash TV. Her favorite way to spend an evening is with a group of friends, laughing, eating, and playing any and all competitive games.
