Gisel is a dedicated educator residing in Lynn, Massachusetts, alongside her husband and two children. For the past decade, she has served as the 6th-grade social studies teacher at Rindge Avenue Upper Campus in Cambridge, MA. Gisel’s passion for learning is evident in her academic journey; she obtained her B.A. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2010 and completed her Masters in Education at Boston College in 2013.
In her teaching career, Gisel has been instrumental in co-designing a unit focused on fostering a deeper understanding of race among 6th graders. This unit encourages students to explore essential questions about race, including inquiries into differences in appearance, the concept’s reality, individual racial identity, and daily practices of anti-racism.
Beyond the classroom, Gisel plays an active role as a member of the CEA’s Educators of Color Coalition Leadership Team, where she advocates for an inclusive environment that supports educators of color in Cambridge Public Schools. Additionally, she holds the esteemed position of Equity Fellow with the Cambridge Equity Collaborative, dedicating her efforts to developing culturally-responsive advisory lessons throughout the academic year. Through her diverse roles and initiatives, Gisel significantly contributes to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within Cambridge’s educational landscape.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Gisel finds joy in travel, both locally and internationally, with a special fondness for her home country of the Dominican Republic. She also indulges in podcasts and anime, harboring a desire to participate in cosplay at future conventions.
