As Assistant Department Head and a math and computer programming teacher, Kanchan plays a major role in setting the culture and ethos of the math department at Newton North High School, located in Newton, MA. Kanchan also leads the Math Department Grading Team and has been instrumental in making grading policies which are more equitable and bias resistant. Her involvement in the Calculus Project and Dover Legacy Scholars has been the foundation of her vision for equity and allowed her to model and promote the importance of relationship building within these communities. Kanchan is a strong believer in and advocate of bringing joy into math education. She has also spoken about that at the NCTM conference 2023 and on the Math Teacher Lounge Podcast.

Prior to Newton North, Kanchan taught at Phoenix Charter Academy, in Chelsea, MA, while pursuing her Masters in Education from Lesley University. Kanchan also holds a Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from Boston University and considers her application based mindset to be a result of her engineering background.

When not thinking about equity in schools and her daughter, Kanchan enjoys reading (and re-reading) books. Kanchan lives in Belmont and is enjoying the beauty of New England with her 2 year old daughter.
