Natalie Guthrie is currently a teacher in Needham High School’s Digital and Media Learning Department, as well as an education programming producer for the town of Needham. Natalie teaches several television communications and technology courses. She also serves as a coordinator for The Castle Scholars Program. Castle Scholars is a program developed to address the underrepresentation of Black and Latinx students in Advanced Placement (AP), accelerated, and honors courses. Since its inception, we have expanded the program to include a social/emotional goal: to increase students’ sense of belonging in the Needham High School Community.
Natalie has been instrumental in this work as a circle facilitator within her building. She has been highlighted for her work around making students feel seen and included with Needam’s SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Council) Award in 2018. She also mentors both young women of color in her building as well as new teachers of color. Natalie works to create educational programming for the residents of the town of Needham, developing documentaries about educational related subject matter, shows for Needham’s superintendent, as well as pieces highlighting individual student work and teacher grants which air on the towns local access television station (NCTDC). Previously, she worked as a local reporter/news producer.
Natalie is a first generation college graduate from Boston College with a Bachelors in Communications and a Minor in Black Studies. She also has a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Emerson College. Natalie enjoys dedicating time to her church, Living Waters International Deliverance Ministry, where she coordinates outreach initiatives and addressing needs within her community. She lives in Boston with her husband and their six children.
